How It Works

How MemoHoney Works: the nitric oxide route, step by step

Four of the six ingredients feed one pathway. The kidney turns citrulline into arginine; an enzyme in the vessel lining turns that arginine into nitric oxide; and the smooth muscle wrapped around the vessel loosens its grip, so the same pressure moves more blood. The first four links have human evidence behind them. The last one, from blood flow to better memory, is inference rather than demonstration.

A mechanism is worth understanding in full, including the joint where it stops being tested and starts being argued.

The mechanism

The chain MemoHoney is built on

Citrulline is absorbed intact

Swallowed citrulline is taken up in the small intestine and passes the liver largely untouched. In the human availability study, oral citrulline raised plasma, red-cell and urinary citrulline together, and under one per cent of the filtered load appeared in urine.

The kidney converts it to arginine

Citrulline is recycled to arginine mostly in the proximal tubule. That is why plasma arginine doubled in the same study without any arginine being swallowed, and why the 2019 review describes citrulline as roughly twice as effective at raising plasma arginine as arginine itself.

Nitric oxide synthase does the rest

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase turns arginine into nitric oxide and citrulline, which is a neat circle. Isotope work in humans traced how much dietary arginine goes down that route rather than into urea, and the answer is: a minority of it.

Vessels widen, flow rises

Nitric oxide diffuses into vascular smooth muscle and relaxes it. The clinical read-out is blood pressure, and the 2025 meta-analysis found citrulline and watermelon lowered it in middle-aged and older adults, with citrulline plus arginine outperforming either alone.

Brain blood flow, and then memory

Here the evidence thins. One 2025 trial measured cerebrovascular function on 8.8 g of citrulline a day in athletes during sprint interval training. Nothing in the literature takes the next step for this formula, because no trial of this formula has been run.

Steps one to four are ordinary physiology, tested in humans, and nothing on this page disputes them. Step five is the one every product in this aisle needs and the one none of them can produce. Saying so plainly is not a criticism of the capsule; it is the difference between a mechanism and a result.

Formulation

Why MemoHoney carries two citrulline forms and two arginine forms

NameWhat the form addsWhat the research used it for
L-Citrulline HCLCitrulline with hydrochloride, which is simply a salt to keep it stable and solubleBlood pressure, vascular function, and one cerebrovascular measurement at 8.8 g a day
L-Citrulline MalateCitrulline bound to malic acid, an intermediate in the same energy cycle the mitochondria runRepeated sprints at 8 g a day; lower-limb function in older women at 3 g a day
L-ArginineThe unmodified amino acid, and the substrate the enzyme consumesBlood pressure, where a review put the effect near 5.4/2.7 mmHg
L-Arginine AKG 2:1Arginine paired with alpha-ketoglutarate, a Krebs cycle intermediate, two parts arginine to oneResistance training, at 4 g three times a day

Four entries, one pathway. The differences are in solubility, stability and what rides along with the amino acid, not in what the body finally does with it.

A cynical reading is that four names look more impressive on a tile graphic than two do. A fair reading is that the malate and the alpha-ketoglutarate are not inert passengers — both are intermediates in the citric acid cycle, and the formulators of these salts have argued for years that this matters.

The reading this desk would offer sits between the two. Splitting a pathway across four ingredients is a legitimate formulation choice, and it becomes a problem only when nobody prints how the total is divided. Two citrulline forms at four grams each is a different product from two forms at a hundred milligrams each, and from the outside the two bottles look identical.

Honest dosage analysis

What a single MemoHoney capsule can physically carry

This is the section the rest of the page has been walking towards, and it has to be handled carefully, because it is easy to overstate.

What can be said with confidence: every amount in the research above is measured in grams. Twelve grams of arginine AKG. Eight point eight grams of citrulline. Eight grams of citrulline malate. Two point four grams of beta-alanine. The smallest figure anywhere on this page is three grams, and it came with six weeks of supervised exercise attached.

What cannot be said, because the artwork does not support it: how much of each of those six ingredients is in this capsule. This desk will not convert a capsule size into a milligram figure and present the result as a fact. What is fair to say is that one capsule is a smaller container than a scoop of powder, that six ingredients are sharing it, and that the reader is entitled to ask the seller for the division rather than accept an estimate from a retail page.

Three ways to think about it that do not require a guess
  • Compare like with like. If you have ever bought citrulline as a powder, you know what eight grams looks like in a scoop. Hold that picture next to a capsule.
  • Ask the seller. A written answer naming lot MEM-26/ME-7435 is the only figure worth having, and it costs an email.
  • Judge the product on its own terms. A once-daily capsule bought as a habit, with a sixty-day window behind it, is a reasonable thing to try. A once-daily capsule bought as a replacement for eight grams of citrulline is not.
The conditions

What would have to be true for MemoHoney to work as described

A useful way to read any supplement is to write down the conditions its story depends on, then ask which of them are known. For this one there are four, and they are not equally secure.

The first is that the capsule contains enough of each amino acid to move plasma levels at all. That is a question of amount, and the artwork does not answer it. The second is that a change in plasma arginine translates into a change in brain perfusion in an ordinary adult at rest — not an athlete mid-session, which is the population the one cerebrovascular trial used. The third is that a change in brain perfusion translates into a change in memory performance, which is plausible over years in the vascular literature and unproven over weeks. The fourth is that these effects survive being taken once a day rather than in divided doses, which is how the arginine AKG trial gave it.

None of those four is absurd. Two of them are the sort of thing a well-designed trial could settle in a year, and nobody has run it. That is the state of the evidence, and a reader who holds all four in mind is in a better position than one who has read the front of the bottle.

The claims ceiling

What MemoHoney does not do, stated once

Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, not a nootropic drug. Nothing in this formula acts on acetylcholine, on amyloid, on tau, or on any of the targets a prescription memory medicine is aimed at. There is no stimulant here: the word energy on the band refers to the NAD coenzymes niacin feeds, not to caffeine, and nobody should expect the lift a coffee gives.

It is also not a treatment. MedlinePlus sets out the memory changes that warrant an appointment, and a supplement is not one of the answers on that page. This desk would rather lose a sale than have somebody spend six months on a capsule when a half-hour assessment was the right move.
